grenfell export tankard
most pewter collectors would probably agree that eighteenth century straight sided quart tankards are their favorite pewter form. the dome lid, chair back thumbpiece, 's' shaped handle with bud terminal, mid fillet band and complex turned base create a design second to none. this quart export example has all the bells and whistles with a well struck touchmark inside by its maker george grenfell of london, execter-devon and kentishtown-middlesex between 1757 and 1784. the tankard stands 7 1/8" tall and is in very good condition.
