It is with a heavy heart that i announce the passing of my beloved husband, Frank M. Powell, on April 1, 2024. Following is his obituary:

Frank Powell was truly a renaissance man, deeply passionate about pewter and dedicated to mastering all aspects of its craft. From repairing to buying and selling this old gray metal, his expertise was unparalleled. A born artisan and craftsman, Frank's skills extended far beyond pewter as he apprenticed as a young man to become a Journeyman Electrician, showcasing his versatility and thirst for knowledge. He held deep admiration for craftsmen of the past and carried on their legacy through his honest business practices, marked by profound knowledge and fairness. Even as his health wavered, Frank's drive never faltered. Whether customizing his beloved Mustang cars or meticulously assembling model cars, he exemplified a relentless work ethic and a restless spirit. A devoted father and husband, Frank's legacy is not only in his craftsmanship but also in the lasting love and pride he instilled in those around him. jill powell 7/28/2024

fine 7 3/4” ‘lovebird’ plate

i am pleased to offer this exceptional single reed plate made in philadelphia circa 1800. it is marked on the back with all three of the marks used by the succession of ANONYMOUS philadelphia makers who produced fine pewter between 1750 and 1820. pewter plates are rarely found in near mint condition as this plate is. at some point in 1858 an owner dated the plate and added their initials “bp bp” to the back side.
